DMU Kinematics

Assalamualaikum and very good day.

For those who are trying out DMU kinematics to complete projects or just learning, there are few different approaches. If you guys have downloaded Dick Sham tutorial about excavator kinematics, it come with different approach. Such as, you need to have you constraints selection very well in Assembly Design, and then use the Automatic Conversion in DMU Kinematics and all are converted systematically. But how if you did not know how to the very well constraints in Assembly Design?

Another approach is to apply the contraints in the DMU Kinematics. These are the steps:

1. Open your Assembly in Assembly Design.
2. Switch to DMU Kinematics.

3. In DMU Kinematics, select icon for Fixed Part, by creating a new mechanism in the appeared window, and selecting part that are fixed (not moving) will end up with a trees appeared under the history tree.

4. Next, Hide all the parts except the fixed part and part that will be connected to the fixed part which will moving prior to your projects.

5. By selecting proper constraints such as (revolute, cylindrical, planar,..etc), in the Kinematics Joints use this command to create contraints between your moving part and your fix part.

6. Apply commands to the constraints, usually shown by angle, or distance.

7. And when you click OK, if a window appear and saying that "Your simulation can  be simulated", so, you have succeed to simulate your first simulation.

8. Use simulation icon in DMU kinematics to manipulate your catia parts.

9. Next, use Rigid icon in constraints, and rigid the parts with either the fixed part or the moving parts.

10. Capture your animation with video capture software otherwise it will have a huge data to capture with catia software.

For a conclusion, there are few criteria that you need to accomplish that are:

1) At least 1 Fixed part is needed.
2) At least 1 Kinematics Joint is needed.
3) At least 1 Command is needed.

And start with few parts first. You also can look for how DOF (degree of freedom) effects your kinematics success. Search for CATIA V5 Kinematics Help in google.
